Hand carved of alabaster in Egypt. It is one of their earliest traditions dating back to 4000BC. The Phoenicians used lit alabaster to ward off evil in their entrance ways. Centuries later, the Muslims used the magical presence of this stone to build the entire Mohamed Ali Mosque, from floor to ceiling.

We have worked in a fair-trade sustainable manner with Hani and his family outside of Cairo for almost 20 yrs. This luminous stone sets the perfect mood when candle lit from within.
